The IW proposal talks are scheduled for 10/13-15. (The thesis proposal talks are schedule for 10/20.) I will send an email of signup instructions at 8pm today, in case you want to catch it early for a preferred slot. If you wish your advisor to attend, you may want to coordinate with your advisor about scheduling. The requirements of the proposal talks are spelled out in the startup meeting and on the web site. The slides of the startup meeting are online as well. As a reminder, let me highlight a couple of things that I look for: - Convince the audience that you have a novel approach to an important problem; - Provide detailed steps and timeline; - Finish your talk in 5 minutes. You may not have time to talk about all the details but I expect to see the details in the slides. In the past, some people have found it useful to provide some of the details in the "notes" section of Powerpoint slides; others have found it more convenient to provide details in extra slides. Please remember to upload your proposal talk slides to the course web page prior to your talks. You don't have to bring your own computers---a networked laptop (with powerpoint installed) will be made available for your talks. If you have special equipment or software needs and wish to bring your own machine, that's ok too. For those of you who haven't registered online on the course web site yet, please do so soon. You won't be able to upload your slides until after you register. Also, I will stop sending IW spams to the csugrad aliases and I will only send to those who have registered so the registration is important. (For IW students, if I don't see your online registration by the end of Thursday, you will lose one point for your course grade.)
