In the mean time, you may wish to visit the course web sites for more information: http://www.cs.princeton.edu/~rywang/03fIND/ You may wish to browse the pages of previous semesters as well. If you are not doing independent projects, please ignore this message. And this is going to be one of the few blanket SPAMs I send to the csugrad lists---later messages will be sent only to those who register for independent work online at the course web site, so it's very important that you register if you are participating. About attendance: I'm willing to be flexible about attendance, especially if you have been to one my organizational meetings before. Those who have not done independent projects before are highly recommended to come. Regardless whether you come to the meeting or not, you are responsible for knowing the requirements (requirements such as what I am looking for in your project proposal presentation). The following two things might make the first meeting more interesting. First, some of our CS faculty will be joining me introducing themselves and their areas of research, and answering your questions. Second, pizza will be served :-) Looking ahead a little, I should point out, as Tina did, that the course project forms are due 10/6 (10/13 for thesis students), and the project proposal presentations are scheduled for a week after that. Although these are the first tangible due dates, it is important for me to point out that the course starts NOW. You should start to actively try to decide on a project and an advisor NOW---you shouldn't wait till after the first meeting to begin thinking about your projects. Cheers, Randy
